I love to run. But let me tell you I’m not one of those runners that have been running since I was a child. Nope, I fell in love with running back in 2010 when I decided that I needed to find a way to exercise to lose some weight.
I’m not a super fast runner or one of those people who wins a race. You’ll probably find me towards the back of the pack and I’m okay with that. Why, because I love to run, be outside, and push myself to MY limits.
The running community is so welcoming. Every race I run in they welcome you with open arms and I love that. So here it is my addiction…running.
Who am I?
I’m Jenn. I’m a mother of 2 wonderful girls and a wife to the most patient man on the planet. I’m a perfectionist and enjoy pushing myself to the limits. It’s no secret in my home that I’m happiest when I’m training for a race.
As a child my mother noticed that I was someone who needed to exercise so she signed me up for gymnastics when I was 3. I grew to love it and it quickly became an obsession of mine. Every night I would walk on my hands down the hall perfecting my form.
My parents bought me a mat so I could practice tumbling in the backyard, I practiced until I would fall asleep. After competing for more than 10 years I had to give it up due to an injury. To this day I miss gymnastics. It will always be my first love however, I finally found a sport that I am able to obsess over like I once did with gymnastics.
Why I started Running Towards Ultra
I’m not the fastest nor do I believe I ever will and I want to share with other that it is completely possible to push yourself to your limits no matter what your age. I’m 43 years old and am in the best shape of my adult life.
Each month I get stronger, am able to run faster, and further. Having this platform allows me to track my progress while showing others this is totally possible. Because if I can do it, so can you, promise!
What you can expect
You can expect me to share my weekly training schedule, my seasonal race schedule, and weekly progress reports here on the blog. Over on my Instagram you’ll see daily updates like what trails I’m running, the food I’m eating, my ups and downs when it comes to running.
Speaking of food
Food is a huge part of a runners world. Making sure we get enough calories and enough hydration is key to staying healthy. I’m still wondering how this will be worked into the blog. I do follow a whole foods plant based diet with the occasional junk food day because sometimes your body needs a few Oreos after a long run. It’s all about balance, right!
I’m thrilled you are here and can’t wait to share more about my journey as I train and run my first ultra marathon.
